Hello from Cream of the West.  Please allow me to introduce myself.  I’m Susan, and a couple times a week I hope to keep you posted concerning everything community, everything whole grain, and everything Cream of the West!

My husband, Steve, and I are partners in Cream of the West, and I spend quite a little time there answering the phone, doing bookwork, and maintaining our website.  We live on a cattle ranch southwest of itty-bitty Two Dot, right in the shadow of Coffin Butte and the Crazy Mountains.  We recently sent our two children off to college at MSU in Bozeman (GO CATS!), the youngest for the first time, and now find ourselves with a very quiet house, yet access to the remote!


This week I attended a two-day “eCommerce” seminar in Billings (wonderfully informative), Alicia attended the “Christmas Gift Show” for three days in Billings, and Steve and I attended the “Governor’s Range Tour”, a two-day bus tour of local ranches practicing good husbandry.  This year’s event was held in our own backyard and hosted by our local Conservation District (with the indispensable help of my good friend Cheryl).  Pulling off a major coup, Cheryl managed to obtain our Governor’s promise to say a few words at the evening’s banquet.  This entire event was a boon to our community, and Cream of the West was on hand to donate 150 samples of Montana Crunch for guests to nosh on during the unseasonably hot bus ride.


I’m posting a new, original recipe developed by Dang and inspired by Cream of the West’s “7-Grain Buttermilk Flapjack Mix”. I’ve tried them, and “Flap Jack Zucchini Nut Muffins (or Bread)” are really tasty.  Many thanks to Dang. Incidentally, Dang has grown up in Thailand; is the grandson of Donna, longtime Harlowton resident; and is a nephew of my high school classmate. Enjoy a taste of his healthy muffins!
