CARAMEL APPLE SHEET CAKE

Cream of the West Caramel Apple Sheet Cake - The perfect combination of tart apples and sweet caramel with all the goodness of roasted Montana wheat!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups plus 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Cream of the West Roasted Wheat
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups green apple – peeled and chopped

FROSTING

  • ½ cup butter
  • 6 Tbsp milk
  • 3 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce (ice cream topping or homemade)

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and lightly grease a cookie sheet.

In a large bowl combine flour, Roasted Wheat, sugar, and cinnamon.

In a medium saucepan combine water, butter and shortening heat until melted and bring to a boil.

Add hot liquid to flour mixture and stir to combine. Add remaining ingredients one at a time, stirring between additions.

Pour into prepared cookie sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees.

Prepare frosting while cake is baking. Measure powdered sugar into a medium mixing bowl. Melt butter and milk together over medium heat and stir into powdered sugar. Stir in vanilla.

After cake has cooled completely pour frosting evenly over cake. Drizzle with caramel sauce. Cut into big pieces and enjoy!
